Part of the fun of traveling for me is picking the accommodation in which we will stay during our time away. There are always so many types of places to choose from when traveling to a new destination and I try to research the best place to stay within our budget wherever we go. There are times when we might stay in a beautiful hotel close to many of the attractions that we would like to see, but when we travel to the mountains, we are always on the lookout for a cozy place to be tucked away and surrounded by nature.
We were able to book such an accommodation through AirBNB for our Blowing Rock trip this past week. It was still close to town as well as close to the state park that we planned to visit and hike. It had all of the cozy mountain vibes that we were looking for.
The house itself has three decks, one for sitting, a main one off of the living room, and a bottom one where the hot tub was located.
When you walk through the front door you are greeted by a warmly lit foyer right off of the kitchen and the stairs. I always appreciate a warm welcome when checking into my accommodation.
The kitchen was a good size and I loved all of the windows that had the picturesque view of the trees outside. It was a joy to cook in the evenings while being able to view the stillness of the mountains outside.
The living room was a small size, but we didn’t mind as we didn’t even turn on the television on while we were there. We did however turn on the electric fireplace and snuggled in for a board game while listening to music. The evenings were mostly spent either playing games or reading a book.
The bedroom was tucked away by the living room and had its own master bathroom. The bed was comfortable, and it was lovely waking up to birds chirping just right outside each morning.
There was a small bonus section upstairs that could have also accommodated another guest and although we did not need to use it, it too was just as cozy as the rest of the house.
A nice bonus to any mountain getaway is when the accommodation has a hot tub. The mountains are almost always in a cooler environment, for us the temperature barely rose above 65 degrees, so after a day of being out and about in Blowing Rock, we would come back to the house and take a nice long soak in the hot tub. Another bonus was that the hosts also provided robes for their guests.
And while the hot tub was an excellent addition to our stay, my favorite part of the entire accommodation was sitting out on the deck early in the morning with a coffee and a book. I would put on a sweater, wrap up in a robe, take a blanket and just enjoy the early morning where all you could hear is the water falling from the trees from the rainy day before and the birds chirping. The experience created such a calm experience that for me has not been replicated anywhere else except in the mountains.
Staying in this cozy house had me dreaming of a possible day when I myself might retire to the mountains. I have been to both the beach and the mountains several times in my life and if I had to choose one or the other to live, for me it would be the mountains. I am a girl who has always enjoyed a calm and quiet environment and the mountains has a way of providing a slow travel experience that you truly enjoy every time you visit.
Come back tomorrow where I will share our second day in Blowing Rock where we visit a beautiful gilded age house, take a hike through the mountains and visit downtown blowing rock again, but during the sunshine instead of the rain.
