There really is no bad time to visit the mountains, but there is something enchanting about a spring or autumn visit that makes it a better trip than summer or winter. When I think of the mountains, I really enjoy the cool weather, fresh air and all the nature which seems to be at its peak in spring and fall. We have been to the mountains in Asheville, North Carolina a few times, but this was our first trip to Blowing Rock, North Carolina. It is a quaint little mountain town that is reminiscent of Star’s Hollow from Gilmore Girls with its small-town charm and cute shops and cafes.
We took only a short trip for two days, so packing was light and easy. Below is what I packed and wore for our petite mountain getaway.
There are some items that you can purchase online still, and I will leave a link for them. Some items may not be available simply because I have had them for a few years, but I will link a similar product.
Day 1 – Road Trip and Town Visit:
I enjoy a good road trip filled with music, conversation and maybe even a stop for an iced coffee or two. Our drive was three hours, so I picked an outfit that would be comfortable and elegant. The house that we rented would not be ready until 3:00, so we drove up early and explored the cute town of Blowing Rock. The outfit I chose needed to be okay for the long drive and for walking around. I chose the Banana Republic Factory boatneck sweater in the color of Pink Amaretti as well as the BR Factory Girlfriend Jeans in a medium wash. The temperature in the mountains would be in the 60’s, so I paired the outfit with this Loft Tuilerie Scarf as well as these Kelly & Katie flats.
Day 2: Hiking/Outdoors
Day 2 was a day of being out in the mountains and hiking. The temperature for this day was in the mid to high 60’s with dense fog, so a long sleeve hiking top and long pants was needed versus shorts and a tank top. I packed this pair Athleta Leggings as well as this Athleta Top and my Nikes. EDIT: It was a little cooler than originally anticipated, so I also wore an oversized striped sweater over top of the athletic shirt to keep me warm as shown below.
After returning from the hike, it was time to get comfortable. After a nice shower I put on an oversized striped cardigan and black chino shorts to relax on the front porch to read a book.
Extras:
The cabin did have a hot tub, so I also packed up this Madewell Bathing Suit and also some White Sneakers for day 2 in case we went into town again after our hike.
