It’s hard to believe that we are already at the end of May, but here we are. As we start to settle into the longer, slower days of summer, I am reminded to always enjoy each season as they come. Summer for me is a time to be outdoors to enjoy nature and the parks, to enjoy days by the pool reading, to explore my town a little more and to embrace wearing lighter clothing and sandals. I am looking forward to the month of June and my trip to Asheville in a couple of weeks and I am ready to enjoy the warm days of summer.
With summer in mind, here are some weekly finds to start off the season of the slow sunny days ahead.
Books, Shopping, Media, Etc.
I saw these wedge sandals online recently and really liked them. They are TOMS Kinsley Wedge Sandal, and they look to be very comfortable as the wedge is not too high. They also come in black, but I liked the white color for the spring/summer season.
As the summer days start heating up, we will be looking to dress a little lighter and in fabrics that will help keep us cool. With that in mind, I found this lovely blue Button Dolman Blouse on BR Factory. It looks elegant and is sure to be a good top to wear for the hot summer days ahead.
Speaking of pretty shoes, I also saw these Antonio Melani Floral Print Slides that I found to be so elegant and pretty. I am not attending any weddings this season, but if I had been I would have gotten a pair of these immediately.
Inspired my previous post this past week on French soaps, if you are looking for the pretty block French Soaps then I found these Petite Marseille Cube Soaps for a great price on Le Fleurs site.
Yet another shoe find for this week, I am one to occasionally check in with Banana Republic for their new releases as BR is one of my favorite stores to shop at. I find their items to be elegant, timeless and of good quality. While browsing I came across their Blue Terzo Leather Kitten Heel Sandal and instantly loved it. I may wait for a sale to get these, but they are on my list.
Farmer’s Market season is upon us, and I saw so many ladies on my Instagram this week getting out and about for their first weekends at the market. I too was out this past Saturday at a mini market. The one thing that I always take with me is my market bag to carry all of my purchases in. I found this Paper Straw Shopper Tote on Banana Republic Factory that caught my eye. A very chic accessory to carry for any market you may visit.
Always one to peruse the cooking stores, I found that Le Creuset recently released a new line, the Le Creuset Peche Collection. A beautiful color for the summer season ahead, it is sure to make any kitchen pop with that lovely hue of pinkish peach.
I found this book recently on Amazon and it looks to be a cute read for this season. One French Summer is described as, Life isn’t quite going as planned for Katy. With her only daughter living in Australia and a husband who has asked for a break, she is suddenly at a loss. Her best friends whisking her away to glorious France for a last-minute retreat is the perfect escape. As Katy unwinds in the beautiful French countryside, surrounded by her friends, the pain of her past slowly begins to melt away under the warm summer sun. Will this reset give Katy a new lease on life?
On my personal summer reading list for this season and released this past month is The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren. Described as, Anna thought she was marrying Liam “West” Weston for access to subsidized housing while at UCLA. She also thought she’d signed divorce papers when the graduation caps were tossed, and they both went on their merry ways. Three years later, Anna is a starving artist living paycheck to paycheck while West is a Stanford professor. He may be one of four heirs to the Weston Foods conglomerate, but he has little interest in working for the heartless corporation his family built. He is interested, however, in his one-hundred-million-dollar inheritance. There’s just one catch. Due to an antiquated clause in his grandfather’s will, Liam won’t see a penny until he’s been happily married for five years. Just when Liam thinks he’s in the home stretch, pressure mounts from his family to see this mysterious spouse, and he has no choice but to turn to the one person he’s afraid to introduce to his one-percenter parents—his unpolished, not-so-ex-wife.
Another fun summer read being released on June 18th is All Roads Lead To Rome by Sabrina Fedel. Described as, Introverted, slightly anxious Astoria knows everything about Rome—her mom’s an attorney here and the two of them are living la dolce vita… at least until Story’s off to college in the fall. But when she is in the wrong gelato shop at the right time, she’s swept up in a fake dating scheme with Scottish heartthrob, Luca Kinnaird, to protect his relationship with a pop princess. There’s something in it for her, too—Luca promises to help fund a scholarship in her dad’s memory. Soon she’s showing Luca the best cafés, sightseeing at the Mouth of Truth, and picnicking at the ruins of the Abbey of Santa Maria del Piano. Pretending to be Luca’s guide—then his girlfriend—gets the paparazzi’s attention . . . and what’s true and what’s fake gets blurry as their different worlds crash together. Sophisticated, hot, rich, and with the most charming accent ever, Luca is full of surprises. And maybe, too, is Astoria’s perfectly planned future.I own and have read Frugal Luxuries by Tracey McBride a few years ago, but it was only recently that I discovered that she has another lovely book called Frugal Luxuries by the Seasons that I plan on purchasing at some point. Originally released back in 2002, the book is described as, Tracey McBride’s first book, Frugal Luxuries, elevated frugal but elegant living to an art form. Now in this companion volume she shares all new ways to embellish cherished holidays and the timeless rhythms of the seasons. Here she shows how to use joined efforts, loving hands, and exciting ideas to create gracious touches and sumptuous celebrations, delicious meals and wonderful seasonal treats. Learn how you can enrich your home with timeless pleasures and lighten the spirits of those you hold most dear–without exhausting your bank account.
Released today on HBO, The Great Lillian Hall looks to be a sweet and emotional show. As beloved Broadway star Lillian Hall (Jessica Lange) pours her heart, soul, and time into preparing for her next big role, she finds herself blindsided by confusion and forgetfulness. Battling against all odds to make it to opening night, while holding on to her fading memories and identity, she must navigate a tumultuous emotional journey — balancing her desire for the spotlight and the stark demands of the real world. Jessica Lang always gives beautiful performances of her roles and I have no doubt this one will be the same.
A lovely segment on New England Today featuring Andover Florist Les Fleurs and author of the book French Blooms, Sandra Sigman talks all things flowers and even shows the audience how they can make a French hand-tied bouquet of thier own.
As I turned 40 this past year, I am reminded that one can still be very stylish at any age and the French is always a good source of inspiration for this. I very much enjoyed How to Dress Parisian Style over 50 – French Women Over 50 over on Parisian Vibe’s YouTube channel.
