A trend that I have seen popping up in my Instagram recently is creators going through and showing what they find incredibly chic in either style, beauty, homes, etc. I have seen so many varied answers to this question with things like silk midi skirts, a pulled back ponytail, diamond stud earrings, small 90’s sunglasses ands much more. I have been enjoying this particular trend as I get a glimpse into what others find simply chic. I don’t really do many Instagram reels, so instead I decided to do a curated weekly of what I find simply chic right now as well as simply chic inspiration to start the weekend.
SHOPPING, BOOKS, MEDIA, ETC.
I think I have to start off this week’s simply chic curated with a clothing staple I have really been enjoying wearing recently which is the short sleeve blazer. It’s not only been a perfect staple for the office during summer, but also when I want to elevate a look while out and about. I got these herringbones cropped blazers from Banana Republic Factory. And because I knew that I loved this style and found it so chic, I bought both versions for my wardrobe.
Occasionally when I go into a beauty shop I like to try out the different perfumes and recently I went to Blue Mercury and tried on a scent by Diptyque in L’Eau Papier. Not only does the scent sound like a chic bookstore, but the scent smells like a chic bookstore too. This one is an investment for sure and I am still thinking that I will eventually purchase a bottle for myself.
With fall being just right around the corner I am already looking at all of the new seasonal items coming out this month. I saw this banana republic factory vegan leather crossbody bag (even though this particular bag looks more suede) in this bright wine color and found it so chic, especially when worn with a neutral outfit. I love maroon colors for fall and this one may be on my list as a seasonal everyday bag,
If you’ve read my home decor posts then you probably already know that I love accents in gold and fluted details, so to have a piece that has both is the ultimate chic for home decor. I found this fluted antique finish decorative box from Target and thought it would be so stylish on a bookshelf, vanity or shelf.
There is something simply chic about sipping an espresso out of a small cup and saucer, even if you cheat and add a little milk to it like I do to make it more of a latte. It seems to make the act of drinking a coffee in the morning more sophisticated. That’s why this fluted stoneware espresso cup & saucer made it onto my simply chic list. And at only $6.99 from Target, it’s also at a great price point too.
When it comes to home decor one way that you can add a touch of chic is to have some texture in the textiles of the home. I have recently been looking at redesigning our bed in terms of the comforter, pillow shams, etc. and this hand stitched velvet sham set look incredibly chic and is on my list. You already know I mostly decorate in neutrals, so adding this touch of texture will create an elegant visual interest to the room. This one is a bit of an investment at $95 for the set, but there is a 20% off with code BRFALL20 at this time to help bring that cost down.
Recently I have found square faced watched to be simply chic as well. In the style of a classic Cartier Tank watch, but one does not need to spend thousands of dollars for a quality watch. You can get this simple Casio watch from Amazon for only $22.80 for the same chic look. I like the leather band look, but if you prefer metal then you can also look into this particular model of Casio watch.
If you’re looking for a chic coffee table book to adorn your table, then look into Entryways of Milan. Described as, first impressions count, especially in Milano. In this unprecedented photographic journey, editor Karl Kolbitz opens the door to 144 of the city’s most sumptuous entrance halls, captivating in their diversity and splendor. These vibrant Milanese entryways, until now hidden away behind often restrained façades, are revealed as dazzling examples of Italian modernism, mediating public and private space with vivid configurations of color and form, from floors of juxtaposed stones to murals of minimalist geometry.
If you are interested in an edgy chic coffee table book, then Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty may be of interest. Known for his more provocative designs, Alexander McQueen will always be a center figure in contemporary chic and this book highlights many of his designs. Described as, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty examines the full breadth of the designer’s career, from the start of his fledgling label to the triumphs of his own world-renowned London house. It features his most iconic and radical designs, revealing how McQueen adapted and combined the fundamentals of Savile Row tailoring, the specialized techniques of haute couture, and technological innovation to achieve his distinctive aesthetic. It also focuses on the highly sophisticated narrative structures underpinning his collections and extravagant runway presentations, with their echoes of avant-garde installation and performance art.
You can’t talk about chic without brining in our favorite chic author, Fionna Ferris. She has many great books on the subject of being chic and a great one to start with is The Glam Life: Uplevel Everything in a Fun Way Using Glamour As Your Filter to the World. Described as, become more glamorous overnight… transform into the beguiling woman of your dreams. Wow people. Feel reborn… it is possible! And it all starts with switching on your glam mindset so you can begin living your Glam Life. In The Glam Life is where magical things happen. You have more fun. Life becomes easier. If you are looking to take deeper dive into all things glamour then look into Power of Glamour: Longing and the Art of Visual Persuasion. A book that delves into what makes things around us glamorous and what glamour really is. Described as, the Power of Glamour is the very first book to explain what glamour really is—not just style or a personal quality but a phenomenon that reveals our inner lives and shapes our decisions, large and small. By embodying the promise of a different and better self in different and better circumstances, glamour stokes ambition and nurtures hope, even as it fosters sometimes-dangerous illusions. From vacation brochures to military recruiting ads, from the Chrysler Building to the iPad, from political utopias to action heroines, the author argues that glamour is a seductive cultural force. Its magic stretches beyond the stereotypical spheres of fashion or film, influencing our decisions about what to buy, where to live, which careers to pursue, where to invest, and how to vote. The result is myth shattering: a revelatory theory that explains how glamour became a powerful form of nonverbal persuasion, one that taps into our most secret dreams and deepest yearnings to influence our everyday choices.
