If you too are elated for the fall season like I am, then you too have probably been getting out and about as the temperatures cool and you start to see more and more pumpkins make their arrival into the shops. I am also two weeks away from visiting New York, so I am also getting excited about seeing NYC in the fall. We will only be there for a quick trip of two days, but I have our itinerary ready to go to make the most of those two days. I am also looking forward to that first morning where I need to bundle up in cozy scarf and coat, and for when the leaves really start to pop with their vibrant colors. Raleigh has a stunning fall season and I feel a little giddiness every time I notice a tree starting to change colors. As we make our way into another beautiful weekend ahead, let’s start by enjoying a curated weekly full of great petite tresors.
SHOPPING, BOOKS, MEDIA, ETC.
Since I work in an office now I am always on the lookout for clothing pieces that can be dressed up for work or dressed down for casual and this silky classic shirt caught my attention recently, especially in this bright wine color which would be great for the fall/winter season.
I don’t carry a large wallet in my purse when I am out and about, I instead carry a card holder. Since I do not carry cash or checks, the card holder is the best options since I can take it in and out of bags easily as well move to other handbags as needed. I recently got this leather card case from Madewell and thought that it looked so chic, especially in this chocolate raison color.
Now that is autumn that means that it is time to work on some autumn themed puzzles. Galison puzzles are my favorite and I really like this heirloom pumpkin puzzle and this Parkside view puzzle.
I personally love all things green, but especially when it’s a dark green color and that is why this stainless-steel arch cutout teapot caught my eye. If I was in need of a teapot this one would be in my cart ASAP and at only $24.99, it’s at a great price point too.
If you are looking for a pumpkin dutch oven for the season, but do not want to pay $300 for one from Le Creuset, then here is one from Wal-Mart for $79.99 instead. I had one in white but gave it away to a friend before I moved, so I am planning to purchase another as I really enjoyed how it also becomes a seamless part of the autumn decor in my house.
I have recently been using a French Hair Pin after watching some tutorials on how to place them in the hair. I find that they look so chic and I especially love these simple gold pins like this one from Madewell. And while you can’t see the back, in the picture below I am wearing one while out shopping.
On a personal note, I am creating a space in out apartment for a small dining nook. Currently we do not have one, we just eat at the island bar, but I would like to have a space that is designated for a small bistro table and two chairs for us to also be able to dine at or use as a desk if needed. Right now, I have this bistro table on my list. Soon I will create a blog post coming up for inspiration for my dining nook as well as the after product.
Most of us already know of the chic Elizabeth Arden and on September 3rd a book titled Becoming Elizabeth Arden: The Woman Behind the Global Beauty Empire was released. I love reading about trailblazing women and have placed this one on my to-be-read list. Described as, Elizabeth Arden was a household name on six continents and a millionaire several times over before her death in 1966. Arden counted British royalty and social elites from the overlapping worlds of New York, Hollywood, London, and Paris among her clients. She revolutionized skin care and cosmetics, making it acceptable for all women to embrace glamour and wear makeup—not just actresses and prostitutes. She created a successful international business empire before women gained the vote and at a time when virtually no woman owned or ran a national company. She developed the first luxury spa and insisted on a holistic understanding of health and beauty. Unconventional and driven, Arden fervently believed that every woman could be beautiful.
Another style book on the list for this week is Henri Bendel and the Worlds He Fashioned. Being released on September 24th, this book is described as, an exploration of the life of Henri Bendel and his fabled women’s fashion emporium. It traces his ascent from Vermilionville, Louisiana as the son of Jewish European immigrants to his role in New York City as America’s premier importer of French couture and an arbiter of style whose lavish homes and rare antiques rivaled those of his wealthy clients. The book also follows the many incarnations of the Henri Bendel store and its satellites and assesses its considerable influence on American fashion and retailing, right up to its closing in 2019 following a remarkable one hundred and twenty-three-year run.
For an Anglophile pick for this week is A Voyage Around the Queen. The latest book from Craig Brown, the author of the marvelous 99 Glimpses of Princess Margaret, sees his sites shift throne-ward, using the same effective storytelling technique (a bounty of small, telling moments that give us something interesting about the monarch or, in some cases, the author and his experiences of her) to explore the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Being released on October 1st, this one will surely make it onto my to-be-read list as well.
I dare say most of us Nora Ephron fans. Her movies have that stylish cozy aesthetic that we simply adore. That’s why I was especially excited to this new release,
If you have seen Sex & the City, Emily in Paris or the Devil Wears Prada, then you are familiar with the iconic styles of the characters. And the woman behind those styles is Patricia Field. In this soon to be released documentary we will get to see the woman behind the clothes in action as well as commentary on her illustrious career.
