If I had to sum up Charleston in one word it would be enchanting. A city that embodies old world charm and beautiful details around every corner. We stayed in downtown Charleston which is where the enchantment is experienced while viewing the cobblestone streets, window boxes full of flowers, budlings that are centuries years old and even the churches and graveyards with their tales of history long forgotten, but still preserved. I will break down my favorite things about Charleston below as we explore the enchantment that is Charleston, South Carolina.
the Elegant buildings
There is no denying the beauty of Charleston buildings for homes, businesses and the churches. There were so many beautiful structures to view, and I enjoyed just walking along the streets and admiring the beautiful facades and the elegant details that made these buildings a pleasure to see.
the historical streets
Walking around the city is in and of itself a viewing of history. We came across so many historical things such as cobblestone streets, centuries old graveyards, and even hidden footpaths by just walking round. We loved discovering these historical gems serendipitously while out and about each day.
the luxurious hotel lobbies
While we ourselves were staying in a beautiful luxury hotel, we also stopped into a few other luxury hotels as well. Most hotels have areas that can be visited by the public such as restaurants, shops of cafes. We stopped into a few, and I adored viewing the luxurious surroundings as well as being inspired to bring some of that inspiration back home as well.
the boutique shopping
Our hotel was located right off of King Street which is where a lot of the high-end shopping is located in Charleston. While there were plenty of luxury shops like Louis Vuitton and Gucci, I really liked stopping into the quainter boutique shops around this area. One shop even had its own little cafe where we stopped in for a coffee. I also stopped into Buxton Books because if there is a bookstore near where I am, a visit will be mandatory.
The Museums
And lastly, while out and about we stopped into the Charleston History Museum and enjoyed the collections as well as the stories of the history of Charleston. Sometimes it can be easy to forget that two major wars were fought in Charleston, the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. There was so much to read and discover. The artifacts were beautiful, and I particularly loved the fine serve ware of teapots, cups/saucers, serving dishes etc.
