December is not only the official month to close out the year, but it is also the first official month of the winter season too where we experience the shortest day of the year (in the northern hemisphere). The holidays are coming up in a few weeks and it’s a time where we tend to cozy up at home more as the temperatures outside turns cold. And while we may be preparing for the holidays ahead it is also a good time to slow down and enjoy the luxuries of everyday life as well. There are five Sundays in the month of December, so why not set aside this time to simply enjoy the comforts of home with some luxurious experiences to enjoy this last month of the year. It can be easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of preparing for the holidays, but having a day to enjoy some simple luxuries can be just the reset needed to make this month an enjoyable one.
-Create A Signature Coctail (or mocktail) to enjoy
‘Tis the season of all things delicious, so why not create a signature holiday cocktail to enjoy for the entire month? There are so many recipes out there and different flavor profiles can be created from simple ingredients, many of which can be purchased from the local grocery store. It’s a great accompaniment to pair with things like a charcuterie board for parties, while decorating the Christmas tree/house, to offer friends and family while they are visiting, or to enjoy while soaking in a hot bath. Whether with alcohol or not, google some holiday cocktail/mocktail recipes and find a way to elevate them like using beautiful stemware, garnished with rosemary, cranberries, etc. and enjoy this festive treat all month long.
-have a winter themed spa night at home
With colder weather comes dryer skin, so why not set aside a few hours to create a spa night at home this month. Light the scented candles, turn on a YouTube Christmas Ambience, put on a spa playlist on Spotify, and pick out the treatments you would like to give your skin, but be sure to finish it off with a refreshing moisturizing face mask. Also have a fluffy robe and slippers on hand, turn the lights down low and make yourself your signature cocktail (or mocktail). Take your time, put your phone down and be present with tending to your self-care mindfully. If you have the budget for it, you can also book a treatment at a local spa for an even more luxurious experience.
-enjoy an elegant christmas movie with an authentic french hot chocolate
Go to the grocery store and gather the ingredients for an authentic French hot chocolate for a luxurious night at home. Purchase the best quality chocolate that you can find (check the baking isle too). Ghirardelli, Lindt and Baker’s chocolate bars are good options. Make a French hot chocolate, light the candles, turn the lights out except for the Christmas Tree and enjoy an elegant Christmas movie in a pair of beautiful pajamas. Some possible elegant Christmas movies to consider are The Holiday, Meet Me in St. Louis, The Family Stone, The Shop Around the Corner, You’ve Got Mail, Bridget Jones Diary, Christmas in Connecticut, Serendipity, Little Women and The Family Man.
-visit a holiday themed symphony or ballet
What could be more luxurious than indulging in the arts? This time of year is full of opportunities to visit a holiday themed symphony or ballet. While the Nutcracker is an obvious popular one, there are more ballets on offer that are holiday themed to look into as well. Book a nice dinner at a restaurant and dress up in your finest dress and accessories and savor a night out enjoying the arts in a luxurious way.
-create a luxuious holiday themed bouquet for the home
If you love fresh flowers and beautiful bouquets like what you would see in a luxury hotel, then google “luxury hotel Christmas bouquets” and look through the images for inspiration to create your own luxurious holiday bouquet at home. You’ll see a lot of red and white flowers mixed with many natural elements and greenery. You can visit a local florist or even grocery store (Trader Joe’s has the best prices on flowers) and pick up a few bouquets to make for your home this holiday season. It’s a luxurious way of bringing a touch of elegance to the home as well as providing beauty to a space just like it does in luxury hotels.
