When forming habits, we want to create them in a way that enhances and elevates our lives for the better. I create my habits around things that excite me and drives me to be the best version of myself as well as to create the life that I want. I work to create my life on purpose, so I will create certain habits that reinforces my mindset to one of luxury and elegance. Habits can be defined as a usual way or tendencies that someone has settled into. The items that are listed below are not routines as such, but more or less things that I do on a regular basis to create the essence of a luxury life and mindset, and the good news is that these are habits that are inexpensive and easily accessible and when practiced, will help to elevate life in a luxurious way.
I formed these habits as a way to enrich my life and to create my own version of a luxurious life. Life will always be filled with tasks, duties, work, chores, and life admin., but these habits were created to make room for the more luxurious moments of life. Luxury can be created in everyday moments and here are 9 inexpensive luxurious habits that you can try to elevate your life too.
-
indulge in tranquil leasure time
Leasure time is such an important part of creating a luxurious life. We need time to relax, to be calm and to indulge in something that we find entertaining and cozy. Whether it’s preparing a luxurious teatime to enjoy, running a luxurious bath with candles and bath oils, putting together a beautiful puzzle, journaling, coloring, or reading. Schedule some time to set aside for leisure time, set the scene and then indulge in whatever activity delights you. This is a habit of being able to calm our nervous system amongst the chaos of everyday life. We come out of it relaxed, refreshed and ready to take on our lives.
-
curate elevated surroundings
The habit of curating elevated surroundings is the single most valuable habit that I have that elevates my life every day. I am always being inspired to elevate my home in a way that feels luxurious to me. For me it’s things like clutter-free spaces, warm neutrals colors, scented candles, beautiful home decor pieces, gold accents, cozy robes and fluffy slippers, luxurious playlists, fresh flowers, and beautiful journals and pens to name a few. The items themselves do not need to be expensive, they just need to be beautiful to you. Take some time to create a home and environment that looks and feels luxurious to you.
-
give yourself spa-like treatments
I love to visit spas to give myself some luxurious treatments, but spa visits can add up as even a simple facial can set one back over $100. While I do visit a spa occasionally, for the most part I give myself spa-like treatments at home instead. Make some small investments into things like small candles, face exfoliation products, face masks, a foot exfoliator, a rich foot cream, a fluffy robe, fluffy socks, a spa headband, fluffy slippers, a clear glass for cucumber or lemon infused water and even create or subscribe to a spa playlist. Pick one or two nights a week and block off an hour or so to give yourself a spa like experience.
-
buy A BOx of luxurious chocolates
There is something so elegantly delicious about purchasing a box of luxury chocolates. Chocolate can be purchased just about anywhere, but a box of luxurious chocolates is an experience that reinforces the idea that all things in life are worthy of being elevated. While most chocolates that you can purchase at a store are okay, a luxurious chocolate truffle creates an experience of biting into this delicate chocolate shell and savoring the exquisite flavor inside. It’s a habit where you get to set aside a moment to indulge in an artisanal delicacy of flavor and luxury. Visit a local shop near you or you can even order luxury chocolates online. It is such a luxurious moment to have a taste of pure quality and pleasure in every truffle.
-
purchase pre-loved items
If you love personal style and want to curate a wardrobe of quality piece, but also wanting to do so on a budget, try purchasing some pre-loved items from places like The RealReal, Poshmark, Ebay ThredUp or Mercari. You can also visit second-hand stores in your area as well for some great finds. I love designer brands that are quality and luxurious as much as the next girl, but I also try to be savvy with my purchases as well. Whenever I see an item that I love I will almost always check resell places to purchase the item. Some of the things that I have purchased pre-loved for my wardrobe are things like a Polene bag, a Diane Von Firstenberg silk wrap dress, a Banana Republic cross-body bag, a Proenza Schouler top (I paid $72 for this top which retailed for over $1,000 when it was new), Banana Republic sunglasses, and more. Buying second-hand has been a great way to incorporate some these pricier items into my wardrobe on a budget.

visit luxury places
This may be one of the most underutilized tips out there for creating a luxurious life/luxurious mindset. To visit an expensive, luxurious place does not need to actually be expensive. In fact, you can visit many of the places either for free or spending very little. Some examples of expensive places you can visit can be luxury stores like Nordstrom, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Saks 5th Ave, or luxury hotels to enjoy a coffee or tea in the lobby, or a fine dining restaurant at lunchtime or simply go and get an appetizer and dessert. You can simply walk around to be inspired by the decor, their signature scent, or if you’re in a retail store try on a beautiful outfit or try on a luxury perfume. In the summer you can try Resort Pass where you can visit a hotel’s pool or spa for the day as another idea. Take yourself out occasionally and visit a place that is luxurious and just be inspired by the elevated experience and think of ways of how you can bring that back with you into your everyday life.

buy fresh flowers for the home
One tip that will probably always be on my list of elevating your life is to buy fresh flowers for the home. As Tonya Leigh once said, flowers are nature’s Chanel and it’s so true. Anytime I have visited a luxurious place, whether that be a luxurious hotel, restaurant, shop or spa, they always have fresh flowers displayed somewhere. Flowers are a beautiful, inexpensive way to add a touch of luxury to your everyday life. You don’t need to be an expert in flower arranging either to enjoy this luxury, you can either buy one or two bouquets, simply trim them and put them in a vase. Some of my favorites that I get are hydrangeas, roses, lilies, peonies, irises, daises, and mums. Sometimes I may purchase the colorful selections like blue hydrangeas or yellow irises, but I mostly keep the colors to either white or a soft pink to provoke that luxurious hotel feeling.

create a luxurious playlist and listen to it everyday
If objects are used to decorate our space, then music is what we use to decorate our time. There’s a reason that every luxurious place you have visited has had some kind of music playing in the background, and this is because the music adds to the overall experience. Music influences our moods and is a pleasure to our senses. Creating or subscribing a luxurious playlist is a way to have music on hand for the mood you want to set. You are welcome to check out my Luxury Hotel Vibes playlist as this is a playlist that i have curated over 10 hours worth of songs. Whenever you are wanting to elevate whatever you are doing, you will have the music ready to go to inspire you.

read luxurious books
Sometimes our budget may not afford us the top tier luxury of traveling to 5-star hotels, flying first class, going on shopping sprees or to go to a fine dining restaurant, but we can save up to have these experiences and in the meantime, we can read books all about luxurious living. However you picture a luxurious life, there is most certainly a book out there on the subject. We should all be very selective about what we consume, especially nowadays where content is aplenty everywhere you look. However, I find that reading a book on luxury brings me back in alignment with who I want to be as well as providing inspiration and ideas to keep elevating my life. Some of my favorite luxurious books that I have read are, Joy in the Little Things: Finding Happiness in Style, Home and the Everyday, All of Fiona Ferris’ books on Chic Living (my favorite is 100 Ways to Live a Luxurious Life on a Budget), the Frugal Luxuries books by Tracey McBride, Ageless Beauty the French Way, the What Would Jackie Do?/What Would Audrey Do? books, Forever Chic/Living Forever Chic by Tish Jett,The Power of Glamour by Virginia Postrel, the Madame Chic series by Jennifer Scott, Dress Like A Parisian, and Entre Nous by Debra Ollivier. Discover books that inspire you to live your version of a luxurious life and read all about it.

I love a number of those authors you mentioned too – Fiona Ferris (I have many of her books), Jennifer L Scott (also love watching her YouTube videos) and Tonya Leigh’s podcasts (I’ve loved her since her French Kiss Life days!). I’d like to suggest you take a look at Alexandra Stoddard’s books. She has many books on creating a beautiful life at home and in the world with practical suggestions. Before all these other authors she was writing about this topic in the 90s. I devoured every one of her books when I was in college (even though I was living a very typical college lifestyle that was in no ways luxurious or elegant!). I’ve always been drawn to this topic I guess.
And I love the idea of changing your surroundings to include more elegant interiors. I love to go to restaurants that have a great aesthetic vibe. Or even switching my reading spot from my living room to my deck, where I can hear the birds sing, feel the breeze, see the flowers, be surrounded by trees. It automatically elevates my reading experience.

I love Tonya Leigh’s podcast as well, always great information from her! I have read one of Alexandra Stoddard’s books, but I need to read more because they are full of beautiful inspiration as well. The deck sounds so lovely, I love that you have a beautiful spot where you can be surrounded by nature and that it elevates your experience while reading 🙂 Thank you for visiting the blog today and sharing your experience and recommendations.
