After taking a two week break from blogging and Instagram for work, I feel like I am back just in time to enjoy and share all things autumn. Although I love and appreciate all seasons for what they offer, autumn is still my favorite season and especially now that I am back in North Carolina I am looking forward to so many things. Autumn in Florida while still my favorite season just doesn’t have the same feeling as it does in North Carolina. I am cozying into the new season as of yesterday and am full of delight as I notice that some of the trees have already started to change ever so subtly.
Here are 10 things that I am looking forward to this autumn as the weather starts to feel more crisp and the trees start to look more colorful.
wearing cozy sweaters
I will forever be a cozy sweater kind of girl. I especially love the soft materials like cashmere. There is something so cozy about waking up on a crisp morning and pulling on an oversized sweater and just spending the day at home with scented candles, a hot coffee and a cozy book. I have sweaters of many different colors, styles and fits for any occasion such as bundling up to enjoy a day out and about amongst the falling leaves.
evening tea time
I love my evening tea time but I often take a break from them during the summer months of June, July and August. I believe I do this because of the hot weather as it makes me want to drink more iced coffees and lounge by the pool. A tea time for me is a cozy activity where I make a tea tray with a small pot of tea, tea cup, a small treat and cozy reading. I indulge in this ritual during the cooler months of the year and am looking forward to making my first tea tray of the season coming up soon.
trip to nyc
Autumn is my favorite season to travel. The months of September through November provides a time where typically the tourists have cleared out, but also the cooler weather has set in. I love to see all of the autumn decor throughout the travel destination as well. Since my husband travels for work he collects a lot of sky miles as well as free hotel stays, so we decided to take a quick trip up to NYC at the end of September. I have so many places on my list to visit and I am looking forward to visiting the city that never sleeps during my favorite season.
savoring the first cup of hot chocolate at angelina’s
Since I will be in New York at the end of the month it will be the perfect time to savor my first cup of hot chocolate of the season and for me and my Francophile heart, there is no better place to enjoy that first cup than Angelina’s. What I love about their hot chocolate is that it’s not too sweet, so one can really appreciate the velvety chocolate flavor as its meant to be. It is an indulgence that I have come to look forward to each time I visit New York and I will savor the moment of sipping a hot chocolate paired with their signature mont blanc as well.
the colorful leaves
While living in Florida I truly missed the rich colors of the leaves in autumn. The many hues of orange, red and yellow simply brings a smile to my face everyday during the autumn months. My mother said that when I was a child I would sit on the front porch during autumn and simply watch the colorful leaves for hours and that wonder has not changed for me as an adult. The leaves seem to paint the world into a whimsical picture that is more fleeting than any other season and therefore one must take observation and appreciation during this short timeframe. This year I will be sure to be out and about as much as possible to appreciate the beauty of this wonder that I missed for the past three years.
autumn reading list
As an avid bookworm I am always excited for my seasonal reading list and with autumn being my favorite season, my reading list is to be sure full of cozy books in a few different genres. Genres from romance, coziness, luxurious living and fantasy made it onto my reading list this year. You can see the books that I have on my list thus far, and the only one missing is The Cinnamon Bun Bookstore which is on pre-order but should be shipped this week. It’s the second book in the Dream Harbor series by Laurie Gilmore with the first book being The Pumpkin Spice Cafe (also on my reading list for this season).
autumn art exhibits
Autumn is when the art galleries open signature exhibits for the season and I am looking forward to the ones planned at my local museum. This year’s exhibit will focus on Venice and the Ottoman Empire. It is sure to be full of beautiful works, interesting stories and lovely events to encompass this season’s exhibit. There will also be a smaller exhibit, Samurai The Making of a Warrior that will premier in October as well.
trip to charleston, sc
Another trip that we have planned for this season is a 4-night stay in Charleston, SC. Charleston is a road trip for us, so we will not need to fly. I love visiting historic cities and Charleston is one full of charm, history and elegance. Also known for their world renowned cuisine, it is also a foodie haven. We haven’t been to Charleston since 2019, so I am looking forward to wandering the beautiful streets again and visiting all of the cozy places that I love.
autumn hikes
Another thing that I missed while living in Florida was enjoying autumn hikes. Florida didn’t have too many places that you could visit to hike and for the few they had it could be quite uncomfortable hiking while the weather was so hot. Here is North Carolina there is no shortage oh hiking trails and parks, especially because we are also so close to the mountains. We will actually be on a hike today for labor day and we also have one planned for November as well. I love being outside in nature and doing so during my favorite season just makes it that mush more special to me.
british bake off show and autumn baking
My favorite comfort show that I tune into a lot is the Great British Bakeoff on Netflix and I always start to get so excited for the end of September when the new season premieres. It’s one of the things I look forward to every autumn regardless of where I live. And one can’t get excited about bakeoff without also getting excited about autumn baking as well. I always bake something delicious on the premier night of bakeoff and I am already making plans for my first autumn bake of the season though the autumn baking will carry on throughout the season as well.
