Life at home is such a special thing to savor. We get to create a space that looks and feels safe and cozy to us as well as a provide a place to indulge our favorite hobbies, explore our curiosities, to rest, rejuvenate, curate, and so much more. Home is where our life starts and ends nearly every day and while I do have a few posts here on the blog about decor ideas, today I would like to explore the smaller details that can make life at home more luxurious. It’s the small details that have truly elevated life at home for me in a way that makes home my dearest place to be.
Our homes can delight our senses in ways where it truly becomes our favorite place to be. To incorporate small pleasantries into home life is worth their investments in time and money in order to create a space that we find true pleasure in spending our time there. Just like how an outfit looks more refined with well-chosen accessories, so too does a home that provides these seemingly simple details that adds a touch of luxury for everyday living. Here are some ideas to explore simple details that can make life at home more luxurious.
-A Luxurious home spray
A fabric spray for the home is such a small detail, but one that is pleasantly noticed when you walk into a room and are greeted by a luxurious scent. Look beyond the usual Febreeze that you may find at any general store and instead invest in one that is better quality that provides a more delicate touch with the scent instead of drowning in it. Use the spray to lightly fragrance the furniture, rugs throw blankets and fabric window treatments. This can help create a more signature scent for your home better than simple lighting candles. Some of my favorite fabric sprays are Frenshe Linen Mist in Cashmere Vanilla, Casaluna in Revive, Diptyque Amber room spray and the Laundress classic linen sprays. I know some people may also have allergies or sensitivities to fragrant linen sprays, so of course be mindful of your unique tolerance.
-cashmere sweaters
The only thing better than lounging around at home is lounging around at home in cashmere. While it may be instinctive to think that relaxing at home in something like sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt is fine, elevating this most sacred time into one of more luxury and comfort raises the standard of our everyday lives at home. Cashmere is considered to be one of the softest and most luxurious types of wool in existence and for good reason. The fabric breathes well, and it is so gentle on the skin that it makes for the finest choice in what to wear at home. And while you may be thinking that it seems too expensive to purchase cashmere just to wear around the house, then simply look on Quince’s website for great deals. You can get this v-neck sweater for only $60 or this cashmere tee for $50.00. If you bought basically one of every 3 months, then you would have four sweaters to use simply for relaxing at home. Not only would these sweaters be of the best quality, but they would also outlive the cheap sweaters that you most likely have to replace nearly every year.
-Flaky Sea Salt
While I have a salt mill that I use as well there is something that is so luxurious about a flaky sea salt to finish a meal, especially when stored in a beautiful salt bowl. A flaky sea salt is the perfect finishing touch for items such as chocolate chip cookies, salads, pastas, vegetables and so much more. I personally love the Maldon flaky sea salt brand, but there are so many different ones out there as well as salts bowls too. But for a luxurious finishing touch to many dishes, have a bowl of flaky salt.
-seasonal mugs
One thing that I try to do as much as possible is to live by the seasons as well as keeping a home that does the same thing. I put this into practice by trying to incorporate seasonal food and decor into the home, but one detail I truly love is a seasonal mug. Whether a cup of coffee or a cup of tea, I love reaching for a mug that is representative of the current season I’m currently in. It’s a small touch of luxury to enjoy a pretty mug while enjoying a favorite drink. I am always trying to sprinkle in small pleasantries where I can into daily life and this small detail is both budget-friendly and simply, a small luxury to be savored.
-match strikers
If you are like me and love lighting candles throughout the house, then having a match striker nearby is a subtle bit of luxury for the home. Not only is it convenient to keep one near the candles, but it also lends itself to the decor of the home as well. You can easily make a match striker out of anything too as you can purchase stick-on strikers and matches on Amazon. But whether you create one or buy one, having a match striker is a bit of luxury for the candle lover.
Colorful Flowers
While I do love a bouquet of white flowers, there something that is luxurious about that pop of color from colorful flowers throughout the home. If you visit any luxury hotel you will be sure to see bouquets of colorful flowers throughout and this can be easily replicated at home to provide that same air of luxury. Put the colorful flowers in spots around the home that have more white space and then watch how that space transforms into one that is simply beautiful.
-croissants on the weekend
Luxury at home isn’t just about decor; it’s also about the small rituals that you bring in to add a touch of pleasure to all the senses and a ritual of enjoying croissants is one of them. Whether you them homemade, but the frozen kind at Trader Joe’s (what I do) and bake them fresh or simply purchase some already-made ones from a store or bakery, enjoying croissants on the weekends is a touch of luxury that feels both indulgent and a bit French. Also, don’t forget a good French butter and Bonne Maman Jam!
-Patterned Details
A touch of luxury that you may not hear often but is truly one worth brining into the home is patterned details. This can be done with table linens, napkins, throw blankets, pillows, cups, vases, rugs even books. This is another element that is often found in luxury hotels too. The main focus of decor and furniture is that of natural materials such as wood, marble and metals and then there will be patterned details in the finishing touches to create a space that is beautiful and cozy. Bring patterns into your home to create that luxurious feel and pleasing environment.
-Beautiful stationary
Whether you journal, send cards, write notes, use a physical planner or just enjoy an occasional correspondence, invest in beautiful stationary to elevate the experience of using these items to one of luxury. Even upgrade the pens and highlighters as well. Using beautiful objects at home is a way to provide a bit of luxury that creates joy in the everyday. It signals back to you that every detail of life matters and is worthy of being elevated. How we move through the world is creating our self-image at every moment, so why not create one of a lady who enjoys luxury at home.
That’s funny that you mentioned seasonal mugs. I had literally just said to my husband yesterday, “I love drinking out of a seasonal mug!”, as I was drinking out of a cardinal mug and he was drinking out of a snowflake mug. He doesn’t really have the same sentiment on which mug he drinks out of but drinking out of a mug that matches the season makes me feel warm and cozy inside!
What a fun story ☕️ there’s something truly so cozy about seasonal mugs that make life at home feel more luxurious. It’s a small detail that often gets overlooked, even though it has so much joy when being used.
